Assessment of Social and Economic Data for the National NRM Monitoring and Evaluation Framework

The mission of the National Land & Water Resources Audit (the Audit) is to provide data, information and nationwide assessments of Australia's land, water and biological resources to support sustainable development. The Australian Government's Natural Heritage Ministerial Board has tasked the Audit with coordinating the collation of data to support reporting under the National Natural Resource Management Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (NM&EF).

The objectives of the project are to increase access to existing data by identifying, documenting and assessing major state, industry and regional data sets relevant to the social and economic indicators endorsed for implementation under the NM&EF; and to provide recommendations on future data and information needs to support reporting on the framework. This is to be done in consultation with regional NRM bodies, Australian Government and state agencies, research and development corporations, and industry bodies, and will include delivery of:

  • a communications plan and products to assist with pre and post-implementation of the data trawl
  • a report on metadata criteria to be used to assess and document datasets, together with the metadata database and entry tool to be used
  • metadata entries pertaining to relevant social and economic datasets, and
  • a report on results of the metadata assessment, including regional, state and industry data gaps.

The successful submission will demonstrate an understanding of the project brief and deliverables required, propose methods assessed as likely to achieve project objectives in full and manage associated risks, demonstrate experience and capacity of proposed team to achieve deliverables within the defined timeframe, demonstrate interpersonal skills and networks for collaborating with government, industry and regional organisations on NRM issues, relevant technical expertise, and value for money.
