Scoping the Northern Australia Climate Knowledge R&D Initiative

This call has now closed.

A suitably qualified consortium to is required to prepare a Science Plan that defines the opportunities, content, components and benefits for increased climate science investment in Northern Australia, focusing on improved seasonal forecasting and its applications to agriculture.

The Managing Climate Variability  program fosters research and development on improving seasonal forecasting, providing access to climate information related to agricultural risk management, developing tools for tactical decision making, and adapting agricultural and natural resource management practices to Australia's climate variability. Land & Water Australia manages the programme on behalf of industry partners: Dairy Australia, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Grains R & D Corporation, Meat & Livestock Australia, the Rural Industries R & D Corporation, and the Sugar R & D Corporation.

This focus of the proposed Northern Australia climate science initiative is Seasonal Forecasting Skill, Downscaling, Applications & Decision Support. The investment will build on existing climate change knowledge to downscale climate forecasting to seasonal timeframes and local applications, with relevance and benefit to industry, biodiversity management, infrastructure and extreme event preparedness.

Guidelines and selection criteria are available below. More information about the programme is available on the Managing Climate Variability website.
