Past Events

The Knowledge for Regional NRM Program has been involved in a number of workshops and forums. These events have provided opportunities for regional NRM bodies, NRM Facilitators and other NRM professionals to share information face-to-face and to build connections.

Social and economic information for Regional NRM

A social and economic workshop for regions was held 4-5 July 06 at the Bardon Conference Centre, Mt Coot-tha Brisbane.

Regions have identified a need for a socio-economic workshop through recent surveys, forums, workshops and direct feedback. This workshop will provide regional NRM bodies with an update about some of the current socio-economic research relevant to them. It will also provide them with an opportunity to share their stories with each other and discuss their needs with researchers and information providers.

The workshop was organised by a steering committee with representatives from national information providers and has also received input from a regional focus group.

North Australian Forum

"Crossing boundaries...building NRM investment"

The North Australia Forum was held in Darwin, May 2006. It was jointly funded by Land & Water Australia (through the Knowledge for Regional NRM Program), the Australian Government NRM Team and the Northern Territory Regional NRM Body. The forum brought together regions from across northern Australia and gave them the opportunity to network, share knowledge, discuss challenges and identify opportunities for shared and increased NRM investment with one another. Participants came away from the Forum with new information, expanded networks and many ideas for dealing with the challenges of managing NRM in the north.

Proceedings are available here (PDF).

Web-based knowledge services for Regional NRM

18 state and territory agency representatives who service regional bodies with data and information services gathered at Land & Water Australia 28 February 2006.

The aims of the workshop were:

to inform the state and territory agencies of what the Knowledge for Regional NRM project is aiming to achieve

  • to inform each other what services are currently being offered to NRM regional bodies
  • to discuss what knowledge services are in the pipeline and identify any opportunities for collaboration

The possibility of ongoing communication about knowledge services was raised and will be considered.

Knowledge Broker Workshop

The Knowledge for Regional NRM Program held a Knowledge Broker Workshop 14-15 February 2006 at Cooradigbee Homestead, Wee Jasper. It involved 22 natural resource professionals who either undertake knowledge brokering as a part of their role, or who have experience in activities related to managing, facilitating and extending knowledge within the NRM system. The workshop created the opportunity for attendees to share how they currently exchange knowledge, what roles and activities are involved in knowledge brokering and some of the possibilities for better NRM knowledge exchange, focusing on some key areas within the system.

National Monitoring and Evaluation Symposium

30 August - 1 September 2005, Hobart, Tasmania

The Symposium was a national first in bringing together representatives from regional Natural Resource Management (NRM) bodies and key Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) practitioners from state/territory and national agencies. One hundred and forty-five delegates, including representatives from 49 regions, found many opportunities to share experiences, learn from each other and develop a collective understanding of how M&E can help achieve better NRM outcomes.

The event itself sparked many linkages and new partnerships. It made confident steps towards a more cooperative environment within and around M&E in NRM.
