Climate Risk Management Drafting Gate

Seasonal climate forecasts are extremely important in making management decision on-farm but they can be complex and confusing.

Designed as a ‘gateway’ to the breadth of information about climate variability, the Land, Water & Wool Climate Drafting Gate website sets out for the first time the tools to help producers manage the farm for climate variability, the terms used in climate forecasting and how to find more in-depth, relevant information.

Specifically, the Climate Drafting Gate explains:

* how climate outlooks and weather forecasting differ and how they impact on farm decision making;
* how to understand local climate variability, through a series of case studies in particular regions;
* the concept of forecast ‘skill’, which reflects the confidence in climate outlooks in local areas;
* how probability, which is used to deliver seasonal outlooks, is derived and how to put it into practice through a probability tutorial; and tools to measure climate variability and how to use them.
