Land & Water Australia congratulates Prof Richard Kingsford

Land & Water Australia congratulates Prof Richard Kingsford on winning the Australian Government Eureka Prize for Promoting Understanding of Science.

Kingsford’s approach to raising awareness of Australia’s inland rivers, wetlands and their dependent communities has added profoundly to the promotion and understanding of science in Australia. His events, research and teaching are renowned. His less conventional work includes government lobbying and on-site science activities and conferences at rivers and wetlands.

Professor Kingsford is currently working with Land & Water Australia to develop a decision support framework for the management of environmental flows in the Macquarie River and Macquarie Marshes.

This project uses empirical modelling to develop decision support tools and models to assist  the management of environmental flows with government, Catchment Management Authorities and the Environmental Flows Reference Group, focusing on inundation, waterbirds, floodplain eucalyptus and native fish.
