Coote The project ‘Development of National Indicators for Wetland Ecosystem Extent, Distribution and Condition’ is a collaborative project involving the National Land & Water Resources Audit (NLWRA), Department of the Environment and Water Resources (DEWR) and the Wetlands & Waterbirds Taskforce (WWTF). The project seeks to develop nationally consistent and coherent wetland indicators, protocols, and methodologies to inform national natural resource management (NRM) processes, including the Australian Wetland Inventory, State of the Environment reporting, Ramsar Convention implementation, and NRM national and regional monitoring and evaluation. The project conducted a series of workshops with all States and Territories in late 2006 based around an initial background report, during which assessment frameworks and potential indicators were discussed. The culmination of that work was presented at a National Workshop for the Development of Indicators for Wetland Ecosystem Extent, Distribution and Condition held in South Australia during March 2007.
