The Grain & Graze program aimed to boost farm profitability across the mixed farming zone of southern Australia, while helping to protect the environment.
Its research focused on cropping, pastures, livestock, profitability, feedbase management, whole-farm economics, biodiversity, social issues, soil and water.
One of the strengths of the program was the direct involvement of farmers and farming groups in local trials and extension activities.
Grain & Graze was a collaboration between the four leading Research and Development Corporations -Land & Water Australia, Grains Research and Development Corporation, Meat & Livestock Australia, and Australian Wool Innovation Limited- and over 60 farmer and Landcare groups, research providers and regional management authorities.
