This project will undertake a program of applied fire management research which augments substantial existing activity, for the purposes of furthering community (Indigenous and pastoral) involvement with, and deriving social and economic benefits from, developing fire management and associated NRM opportunities in northern Australia.
This project will help realise further opportunities for payment of environmental service activities across northern Australia, substantiate and validate the economic significance and potential of these services, and improve the efficiency of delivery of the services by improving the sophistication and accessibility of relevant management strategies.
Outcomes
1. Develop practical, transferable strategies for enhancing community and industry engagement in the delivery of improved fire management outcomes, through establishment of sustainable market-based instruments such as payment for environmental services.
2.Identify opportunities and options for improvement in local and regional scale fire management outcomes, through more efficient use of existing human resources and infrastructure, refinement of management tools and information delivery.
