This project will build on the success of the Australian Master TreeGrower Program by facilitating greater integrated vegetation management.
The project will highlight the complementary role played by native vegetation in productive agricultural landscapes, encourage farmers to integrate native vegetation management into their farm management systems, facilitate the development, testing and extension of appropriate and cost effective management techniques, and encourage farmers to play a more active role in regional vegetation management research and extension.
Expected project completion date: July 2008
Outcomes
1. Stimulate and facilitate greater integrated vegetation management practices on farms by engaging hundreds of farmers in regional native vegetation management communication programs alongside key national and regional scientists, catchment planners and industry members
2. Involve farmers in the identification and evaluation of potentially practical and locally appropriate methods of native vegetation management (both new and existing) highlighting specific research and development needs
3. Encourage and support farmer participation in the development, research and communication of potential native vegetation management practices and policy initiatives (including environmental service incentives and land management regulations).
