Outcomes from estuarine, coastal and marine information program 2006-2008

A national program that supported 14 projects involving collaboration with over 130 people and more than 30 national, state and regional agencies

The program aimed to:

  1. further develop indicators under the National Natural Resource Monitoring & Evaluation Framework including guidelines on collecting and collating data
  2. develop information products to support policy and management needs
  3. facilitate the development of data and information management systems

National estuarine, coastal and marine habitat map series

This project aimed to discover and negotiate access to all existing GIS (electronic) ECM habitat maps, collate the GIS maps and then apply the relevant national classification schemes, develop new nationally consistent habitat classification schemes where not available and conduct quality assurance and document the national map series. The ECM national habitat map series consists of two (more)...

Indicator guidelines: toxicant concentrations

Estuarine, coastal and marine habitat condition

This document presents the recommended monitoring guidelines for sample collection, analysis, collating and reporting information on toxicant concentrations for national, state/territory and regional applications.

Indicator guidelines: sedimentation/erosion rates

Estuarine, coastal and marine habitat condition

This document presents the recommended monitoring guidelines for collecting, collating and reporting information on sedimentation/erosion rates for national, state/territory and regional application.

Indicator guidelines: presence of litter (rubbish and marine debris)

Estuarine, coastal and marine habitat condition

This document presents the recommended monitoring guidelines for collecting, collating and reporting information on the presence of litter in estuarine, coastal and marine waters for national, state/territory and regional application.

NRM Estuarine, Coastal and Marine Report Card Best Practise Workshop Report

Tangalooma, QLD March 2008

A national workshop was held in Queensland between 11 and 14th March 2008 with the following objectives: Within the context of the ECAF, identify the structure and core components for an NRM ECM Report Carding Best Practice Framework Identify what needs to be done (i.e. pathways, next steps) to produce and implement an NRM ECM Report Carding (more)...

Estuarine, Coastal and Marine National Condition Assessment

Scoping Report

This document proposes a new generic assessment framework – the Environmental Condition Assessment Framework (ECAF), which could be the basis for a national assessment. The generic framework could be readily “flavoured” to produce a National Estuarine ECA framework (NEECAF), a national Marine ECA framework (MECAF) and a national Coastal (more)...

Introducing OzCoasts

Integrated web access to key Estuarine, Coastal and Marine Indicator information and data for Natural Resource Management – Final Report

The OzCoasts website (formerly called OzEstuaries) was released as part of a collaborative project with the National Land and Water Resources Audit (NLWRA). The title of the project was: Integrated web access to key Estuarine, Coastal and Marine Indicator Information and data for Natural Resource Management. The major new addition to the website was a module dedicated to NRM Reporting.

Development of estuarine report cards consistent with the national estuarine environmental condition assessment framework

This document has been prepared for the National Land & Water Resources Audit (the Audit) by the Water Science Branch of the Department of Water. The Audit is funding the development of a national report card system based on the emerging National Estuarine Environmental Condition Assessment Framework (NEECAF) (Mount and Arundel 2007). This report looks at the process of developing report cards with the intention of integration and translating West (more)...
