Land Salinity

Indicators of Land Salinity Assessment

South Australia

This report has investigated the practical application in South Australia of the recommended indicators and protocols for evaluating change in land salinity under the National Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. Several issues can be highlighted following the application of the indicators at the Narroonda and Cooke Plains dryland trial sites. General Applicability: Depth to groundwater, and location, size and intensity of salt affected areas are the most (more)...

Presentation of information related to the indicators for land salinity (Qld)

Two pilot areas were selected for assessment of the national indicators relating to land salinity. They will be treated individually under a common set of headings. The first sub-catchment is Black Snake Creek in South East Queensland and the second is Pocket Creek in the Fitzroy basin.   The areas were selected as appropriate for this study through discussions with Department of Natural Resources and Water (NRW) staff including Soil Scientists and Land (more)...

National Indicators for Land Salinity

Victorian Component

This report provides Victoria’s response to the National Coordination Committee for Salinity information’s request for a set of recommended indicators and protocols to assist in evaluating change in land salinity. The two areas selected as subjects for the ‘Indicators for land Salinity Study’ are the two sub-catchments called Upper Gardiner Creek and Morrisons - Sheoak. These are located in the Goulburn-Broken and Corangamite catchments respectively. The (more)...

Salinity Indicator Trials

National Summary Report

This report details findings of salinity indicator trials funded by the Bureau of Rural Sciences (BRS) and the National Land & Water Resources Audit (NLWRA) as part of the Australian Salinity Information Project (ASIP). The trials were conducted by six Australian states (Qld, NSW, Vic, Tas, SA and WA). The trials (more)...

Assessment of the National Land Salinity Indicators in Tasmania

In early 2006 the National Land and Water Resources Audit commissioned a project in each state to trial the applicability of the recommended indicators and protocols for the evaluation of land salinity under the National Monitoring and Evaluation Framework. The four land salinity indicators trialled were depth to groundwater, groundwater salinity, baseflow salinity and location size and intensity of salt affected areas. In Tasmania, the trial was undertaken in the Back Creek Catchment, which is (more)...

Land Salinity: status of information for reporting against indicators

Status of information for reporting against indicators under the National Natural Resource Management Monitoring and Evaluation Framework

This booklet summarises the current capacity to report on land salinity indicators pertaining to the land salinity “matter for target” agreed under the National Natural Resource Management Monitoring and Evaluation Framework (the National M&E Framework). The four indicators are: depth to groundwater (indicator 1) groundwater salinity (indicator 2) baseflow salinity (indicator 3) location, size and intensity of salt-affected areas (more)...
