Research

We aim to provide the science and knowledge that governments, communities and industries need for the sustainable use and management of Australia’s tropical rivers and estuaries.

TRaCK’s research combines science, economic and social perspectives. The research will look beyond the river banks, to the floodplains and down to the estuaries and coasts to capture the “whole river picture”. Our different strands of research are organised into seven interconnected themes. You can explore these themes by using the themed icons on the sidebar.

Research Catchments

The tropical rivers region is vast and often inaccessible. While studying the whole region in detail would be ideal, it is not feasible. TRaCK consulted communities and interest groups in the north to decide upon a set of relevant focus catchments. These four catchments are the Fitzroy in Western Australia, the Daly in the Northern Territory, and the Mitchell and Flinderscatchments in Queensland. The majority of our field-based research is occurring in these catchments. We also have a number of projects operating across the entire northern Australia, tropical rivers area.
